The dream of any college graduate is to land a good starting job. But for broadcast major Johnny Tillotson, the first job was a hit record.

Johnny attended the North Shore Elementary School in Jacksonville Florida and later Palatka Elementary School in Palatka, Florida. He attended Palatka Junior High and graduated from Palatka Senior High School He was voted most dependable, he received the Sandy Nininger award for Citizenship (since 1946, 520 Sandy Nininger awards have been presented by Key Clubs International to outstanding students.) Johnny was Editor of the School Paper “The Keyhole”, Class President, Class Treasurer, Vice President of the Student Council, Vice President of the Key Club, Vice President of the Spanish Club, Beta Club, Hi-Y, Junior and Senior Play MC,  Forensic Club, Graduation Usher, member of the Maroon Memories Annual staff.

Johnny has a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Florida, Gainesville in Journalism and Communications (Tel 1959,) and is the 2006 winner of the Alumnus of Distinction Award from the College. As of 2006 Johnny was one of only 91 to be so honored throughout the College’s history.
